Fair Skin Prejudice
A recent advertisement on TV for a new product (I believe) “Fair and Handsome” made me gasp. Well on one hand it is another call for the metrosexual man and on the other hand when did women stop loving tall, dark men.
The fair skin prejudice……is it now running through men ? The stakes of a fair bride are still running high in our society , even in the middle classes . Why is there still a tussle ..However over the past few years the earthy colour has been a haute couture popularized by Bengalis beauties Kajol , Bipasha Basu and the sizzling Tanushree Dutta. The attributes of beauty are being redefined now, thanks to the growing touch of globalization.
I get reminded of a movie which runs a dialogue “Ladke thode boot na ho,phir bhi ladki gori honi chahiye”(Even if the guy look like a ghost, the girl must be fair)……and why I am writing this……Recently one of my friends got married, fulfilling all requirements that a typical Indian bride required……the stakes put in by the guy too were high….but a naughty thought just flashed across my mind……what if their kids looked like him and not his beautiful bride….perhaps at that time he would realize living in the new world. I would rather say grow up to these men. But I guess its happening the other way around too, else why would they want Fair and Handsome…….?
